Heater Moves to Warmer Climate

Dany Heatley finally got his wish, ending the saga which saw him shock his teammates and coach after asking for a trade in mid May. This afternoon the Sharks and Senators agreed on a deal that sent Dany Heatley and a fifth round pick to San Jose, while Milan Michalek, Jonathan Cheechoo and a second round pick head the other way to Ottawa.

I like this deal for both teams, the Senators can now move on from a dramatic summer and focus on winning hockey games. They receive two talented forwards, both of which are likely to add scoring to try and fill the hole Heatley has left in the lineup. Chechoo has something to prove after posting declining point totals in the past three seasons, but he has the potential to put up decent numbers once again.  As for San Jose, they gain a 50 goal scorer who could easily score 50+ again, and moved a former 50 goal scorer in Cheechoo who has been struggling since his huge 56 goal ‘05-’06 season. The Sharks also lose a solid player in Michalek, however some type of move needed to be made over the summer after promises of a roster shake-up.

As a Canucks fan, seeing Heatley in the West is not what I wanted to see. The thought of a Thornton to Heatley combination is terrifying; here’s hoping the only time the two of them fill the score-sheet at GM place its as Team Canada players, not Sharks. I still believe the Sharks will be cursed in the playoffs, but seeing Heatley added to an already dangerous San Jose team doesn’t make me feel good about the regular season. If you were Ron Wilson Todd Mclellan, do you skate Heatley and Thornton together as a lethal top line? Or do you keep Thornton with Setoguchi and leave Marleau and Heatley to round out a dangerous, balanced scoring attack?

My mistake, thats what I get for reading about the Leafs and writing about the Sharks at the same time. And yes, Heatley has been whining to much, he has only been with two teams, and has demanded trades from both of them, he has no loyalty at all.

I used them too, we use 3 random teams when we play at our place, and I came up with San Jose...Heatley to Thornton happened a couple times in the opening game, I won 5-1

Didn't you think of creating a journal based on your blog (many people already do so - have a look at their experience at http://www.pdfqueen.com the search engine on pdf periodical)? In comparison with the blog, journal is more convenient to read
